Clarithromycin is a semi-synthetic derivative of erythromycin. It exerts its antibacterial action by binding to the 50s ribosomal sub-unit of susceptible bacteria and suppresses protein synthesis. It is highly potent against a wide variety of aerobic and anaerobic gram-positive and gram-negative organisms.

Child body weight:
Under 8 kgs, 7.5 mg/ kg twice daily;
8-11 kgs (1-2 years), 62.5 mg twice daily;
2-19 kgs (3-6 years), 125 mg twice daily;
0-29 kgs (7-9 years), 187.5 mg twice daily;
0-40 kgs (10-12 years), 250 mg twice daily;
or as prescribed by the physician.
Clarithromycin is indicated for respiratory tract infections, mild to moderate skin and soft tissue infections, otitis media; Helicobacter pylori eradication.
