Mefenamic acid (Brand) 500 mg capsule is an off-white microcrystalline powder encapsulated in empty gelatin capsule size#0 with white opaque cap and white opaque body.
Mefenamic acid is a member of the fenamate group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is a white to greyish-white, odorless, microcrystalline powder with a melting point of 230°-231°C and water solubility of 0.004% at pH 7.1. The chemical name is N-(2,3-xylyl)-anthranilic acid. The molecular weight is 241.29. Its molecular formula is C15H15NO2.
Mefenamic acid, an anthranilic acid derivative, is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with demonstrated anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activity in laboratory animals. Its mode of action is not completely understood, but may be related to prostaglandin synthetase inhibition. In animal studies, the drug was found to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis and to compete for binding at the prostaglandin receptor site.

Adult Dose: 2 capsules initial dose followed by one (1) capsule every 6 hours or as prescribed by the physician. Not recommended for use in children and pregnant women.
For the relief of pain including muscular, rheumatic traumatic dental post-operative and post-partum pain and headache.
